Topic: “Are You Drinking Coffee Wrong? The Science Behind Caffeine”
Biochemist, food scientist, and local author Danielle Robertson Rath (the “GreenEyedGuide”) will give a short talk at the Pauline Haas Public Library in Sussex, Wisconsin.
JUST IN TIME for Caffeine Awareness Month (March), GreenEyedGuide will share tips for drinking caffeine more strategically (using science); surprising trends in the world of coffee and caffeinated beverages; and common myths and misconceptions about caffeine and energy drinks.
Topic: “How to Use Caffeine For Exams (without dying!)”
Caffeine improves performance, mood, and alertness, but how do you drink caffeine for an exam? Pop Quiz: How do you get enough caffeine to fuel those all-nighter cram sessions but not so much it sabotages all your study efforts or sends you to the hospital?
GreenEyedGuide shares the answers to this quiz and the strategies every student needs to survive midterms and final exams.

Food Tech Club is the University of California, Davis student chapter of the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) committed to offering career development for future food scientists.
Throughout the year, Food Tech Club holds bi-monthly meetings to connect students to events such as guest lectures, professional workshops, food industry tours, and networking events. Taking part in these opportunities gives students a chance to gain a deeper understanding of the diversity of the food industry as well as the career opportunities and options it offers. Food Tech Club also keeps students posted on opportunities for scholarships, internships, and careers.
Food Tech Club is an active participant in regional and nation-wide food competitions, in which student teams work together to compete with other schools in product development. These competitions allow students to learn practical skills using their Food Science knowledge, further preparing them for a career in the food industry.

This lecture will include a review of news media and the corresponding or conflicting data in scientific journals.

Speaker, Ozaukee Community High School: How to Use the 5 Levels of Fatigue to Avoid Caffeine Overdose
Ozaukee Community High School is an alternative education program for underserved students in grades 9-12. Student options include both credit attainment and GED Option 2. This individualized, self-paced program is specifically targeted toward students who are at-risk of not graduating high school and are in need of either credit attainment to get back on track or the GED Option 2 for graduation.
GreenEyedGuide will be submitting a research paper abstract for consideration. Research includes analysis of the top-selling energy drink brands and compliance with industry best practices.
GreenEyedGuide will lead an interactive workshop to address fatigue in the workplace using the GreenEyedGuide 5 Levels of Fatigue and the 5 Levels of Fatigue Defense from the ACOEM.
